Mid-Atlantic
Narrow Gauge Guild

Welcome

Last update - October 8, 2009

Who are we, you ask? We are a loose knit group of narrow gauge enthusiasts who reside mostly in the mid-Atlantic states from Connecticut in the north to the Carolinas in the south. Our interests are varied. Many of us are modelers who build in Nn3, HOn3, Sn3, On3, On30, G scale and other scales. Others of us are just interested in preserving the narrow gauge railroads that still exist in the United States. We may collect photographs, movies or videos that were taken of narrow gauge railroads when they were still active or are now tourist railroads. Our favorites are roads like the East Broad Top, the Colorado & Southern, the Rio Grande Southern, the Durango & Silverton, and the Sandy River & Rangeley Lakes. We trace the history of logging railroads like the West Side Lumber Company or the McKelvey Brothers on the E.B.T. If it's narrow gauge, someone in our group has information about it.

Bob Beebe – 1928-2009

TO THE MEMBERS OF THE MANGG:

Bob at the Kimberton Meet,
May 16, 2009.

Some of you may already know that Bob Beebe passed away in his sleep on Friday August 7, 2009. Bob was very active in the NMRA, FEBT and was instrumental in keeping all the records and doing all the computer work including this website. He never wanted any help from me. Many times I asked to do some of the work but he wanted to do it himself. He did it well.

He was at my house on Wednesday evening, August 5th with the rest of the Wednesday night bunch that has met here since 1972 and you would never know there might have been a problem. His wife Mary said Thursday he was about as normal as ever. Bob was 81 but looked 71. He will be surely missed by many people and this small narrow gauge group.

I now have my work cut out for me. Bob never gave me the information to get to the website. His wife allowed me to bring his computer home and a friend and member of this group, Allen Underkofler, with website knowledge has offered to help me get the site back up and running. Allen contacted the host and since my name is on the contract, my permission had to be given to Allen to continue the site. Allen will be working on it in the future.

Once we get running I will send out an email to all those on the list with current email addresses. Please contact any other members you know that may not have this information.

In the future please direct all correspondence, phone calls, and email to me at the address below. Please make all checks out to my name, not MANGG. The show will go on! Hope to see you all in the spring.

Thank you,
Bruce Saylor

Tragedy in Canton, OH In early June, Jim Eakin’s wife, Margaret, was found murdered. Her ex-son-in-law, James Mammone, has been charged with her murder. He is also charged with the murder of his two children, Mace, 5, and James, 3. Mrs. Eakin watched the children while Marcie Mammone, the children's mother, worked. The couple divorced in April. Our condolences go to Jim and his daughter.

Meetings are held about every two months at various locations around the area. A schedule is produced each year and lists the meetings and their locations. Some meetings are held in members homes where there may be a narrow gauge layout on display. Other meetings, like the annual Module Meet, are held in a rented hall. Modules are set up for a week-end of operations. The schedule also lists the annual Narrow Gauge Convention and the annual Fall Spectacular held at the East Broad Top R.R. in south central Pennsylvania. Train shows, as far west as Ohio, are also listed.

Membership is open to all those interested in narrow gauge railroading. You need not be a modeler, a photographer or a collector of railroadiana. There are NO dues. There are no officers. Wives and significant others are also welcome. If you feel we might have something to offer you, and you reside within the mid-Atlantic region previously described, fill in the membership form or access the schedule and attend the next meet in your area.
